VIA University College

VIA University College is a university college in Central Denmark, headquartered in Aarhus and spread across eight campuses. It was set up in January 2008, when the medium higher education in the region that had sat under CVU was reorganised into a single unit. The name is not an abbreviation: it comes from the Latin via, meaning "by way of". The mergers made it one of the larger educational institutions in the country.

Teaching here mixes theory with practice, and most programmes include an obligatory internship at a real workplace. Students are expected to take personal responsibility and work independently. Entrepreneurship runs through all study programmes, and VIA offers guidance to students who want to start their own businesses. Sustainability is on the curriculum too, with circular thinking and the UN Sustainable Development Goals built into every programme.

The register lists 16 English-taught degree programmes: 3 Academy Profession degrees, 10 bachelor's degrees, and 3 top-ups and postgraduate diplomas. Subjects include mechanical engineering, computer science, engineering, marketing, accounting, industrial design, graphic design, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, fine arts and agriculture. The Animation Workshop in Viborg is known for its animation education and hosts the Viborg Animation Festival. Campus Horsens holds most of the engineering, technical and business programmes and has a large international student body.

For an international student, the practical steps are straightforward. Undergraduate applications go through optagelse.dk, while master's applications are made directly to VIA. Students from outside the EU/EEA need a residence permit through SIRI. Study is free for EU/EEA and Swiss students, and others pay an institutional fee. Most programmes enrol students twice a year, in February and September.
