About University College Absalon

University College Absalon is a university college covering Region Zealand in Denmark. It has seven campuses, in Roskilde, Slagelse, Næstved, Holbæk, Kalundborg, Vordingborg and Nykøbing Falster, and all of them are easy to reach from Copenhagen, between 30 minutes and 1 1/2 hours by train. Around 8,500 students and 650 employees are spread across those sites.

The institution was established in 2007 and changed its name from University College Zealand in 2017. It describes itself as the central driver for education and growth in the region. The teaching is built on close partnerships with workplaces, which the college says secures good traineeship places and keeps programmes in step with what employers need. Graduates are trained with professional qualifications and social competences for both the public and private sector.

It offers thirteen professional bachelor degree programmes, two of which are taught in English. The register lists both English-taught degrees at bachelor's level: a Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology and a Bachelor of Education. The engineering degree runs in Kalundborg, next to the biotech companies of the Kalundborg industrial symbiosis, including Novo Nordisk's insulin manufacturing site. Students work with cases and projects in those companies and have a paid internship in their final year. The teaching degree is an International Honours degree based in Vordingborg, aimed at students who want to teach in international schools. The college also runs international modules each semester at different campuses.

For an international student, the practical side matters. Undergraduate applications go through optagelse.dk, while master's applications are sent directly to the institution. Students from outside the EU/EEA need a residence permit via SIRI. Study is free for EU/EEA and Swiss students, and others pay an institutional fee.
