What you will study

Human Security at Aarhus University is a two-year interdisciplinary master's programme taught in English at the historic Moesgaard Campus. It is the first programme of its kind in Europe, bringing together the School of Culture and Society at the Faculty of Arts with the faculties of Science and Technical Sciences.

What you study

You learn several approaches to human security and build a deep understanding of conflicts and ecosystems around the world. The teaching combines scientific theories with real-life experiences so you can analyse and intervene in settings shaped by social, environmental, economic and political factors. Human security here means freedom from fear and freedom from want, and the ability to live a life with dignity. The programme is interdisciplinary in content and in its student body: students come from the humanities, social science and natural science, and lecturers come from departments including Anthropology and Bioscience, with visiting lecturers from around the globe.

Admission, language and next steps

To apply, you need a relevant and recognised university degree equivalent to a Danish bachelor's degree (180 ECTS) and you must meet the programme's specific requirements, including English language requirements. Applications for master's degrees go directly to Aarhus University through its application portal. Students from outside the EU generally pay tuition and an application fee; students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland study free of charge. Aarhus University offers a limited number of Danish state scholarships for highly qualified non-EU students. The programme is based at the Department of Anthropology, whose research specialisations include globalisation and development, innovation and design, and medical and visual anthropology.
