What you will study

Economics and Business Administration in Herning is a three-year bachelor's programme at Aarhus University. It is taught in English and shares its content and degree with the equivalent programme in Aarhus. You study how companies create value, attract customers and make decisions, with a broad base in business economics.

What you study

The programme covers business economics, marketing and sales, finance, management and strategy. You work with financial statements, budgets and key financial indicators, and learn to assess how a company is performing financially. You also analyse markets and competitive conditions, and look at how management, communication and collaboration affect operations and organisational change.

From the start, you work with real company cases. You might explore why sales are falling, who the customers are, or how a company can increase its revenue. You learn to turn analyses into concrete recommendations, such as adjusting prices, changing target groups, optimising costs or organising work more effectively.

How the programme is organised

Teaching is split between lectures, classroom instruction, study group work and independent preparation. In lectures, the teacher goes through topics from the syllabus. In classroom instruction, you are expected to be active, for example by applying theory to suggest solutions to specific company problems. You also join a study group where you prepare presentations, do assignments and help each other before exams.

The programme is full-time, though you may not have scheduled classes every day. In your fifth semester, you can do a project-based internship with a company, working on real tasks in a professional setting. In Herning, collaboration with companies is a particular strength: you meet them through guest talks, work on their challenges in class and visit them to see their everyday operations.

Who it suits

This programme suits you if you want to understand what makes businesses grow and why some struggle with pricing, costs or reaching the right customers. You should be comfortable working with data and financial dynamics, and interested in markets, organisations and consumer behaviour. The Herning setting is smaller and closer knit than Aarhus, so you get to know your fellow students and lecturers well.

Admission, language and next steps

To be eligible, you need a qualifying examination plus specific subjects: English B, Mathematics B, and either History B, History of Ideas B, Contemporary History B, Social Science B or International Economics B. If you are missing a subject at the required level, you can take it as a supplementary course, including a summer supplementary course (conditional admission). The requirements must be met and documented by 5 July in the year of application.

Applications go through optagelse.dk. There are two quotas. Quota 2 applicants are assessed on the average of particularly relevant subjects (English B, Mathematics B and one of the history or social science subjects) and other documented relevant qualifications. Quota 2 applicants are invited to a meeting to match expectations, which is optional and gives you a chance to ask questions about the programme and the study location.

The programme is taught in English. Students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland study free of charge; other students pay a fee set by the institution. Most graduates continue with a master's degree, for example the MSc in Economics and Business Administration, and the bachelor's degree gives you a legal right of admission to that master's programme.
