What you will study

What you study

The programme is called Musiker og Musikpædagogisk Udvikler (MPU). It is for classical, rhythmic, church music and folk music applicants who want to work as a professional musician, music teacher and entrepreneur. You have two main subjects. One is free: you can choose your main instrument or voice, or you can choose ensemble leadership, choir conducting, children's choir conducting, ear training pedagogy, composition and more. The other main subject is compulsory: Basic Music Pedagogy (GM). It focuses on teaching groups and gives you tools to teach children, young people and adults at a high level, for work in music schools, primary schools, efterskoler, folk high schools, evening schools and similar.

You also take the special subject Brobygning (bridge building). Here you work on your own musical projects in different music pedagogy areas. You can develop your own profile and interest, for example with new experimental concert formats, composition, the transition from preschool groups to beginner instrumental teaching, or new teaching methods and materials for music and ear training for children and young people. The point is to build bridges and create better coherence in the musical chain.

The programme has two electives, so you can tailor your study to your own interests. Teaching in the general subsidiary subjects takes place together with students on the classical, rhythmic or folk music lines.

Admission, language and next steps

The programme is only available for Danish or Nordic speaking applicants. The teaching language is English, but the admission requirement is Danish or Nordic language skills.
