About Danish National Academy of Music
The Danish National Academy of Music is an academy of music based in Odense, in the Southern Denmark region. It was founded in 1946 and is one of the country's academies for the arts, music and design.
The academy teaches music as a craft first. The study year is built so that individual lessons, ensemble playing, electives and project weeks fit together naturally. The stated philosophy is that strong instrumental and vocal skills underpin an artistic and personal way of expression, whether in performance, composing or teaching. Teaching is delivered by musicians who also work as performers on the Danish and international scene, and the year is reinforced by clinics, master classes and talks with visiting artists. Teaching in artistic entrepreneurship is part of the offer, so that students learn to put their music into action in different settings.
The Study in Denmark register lists 11 English-taught degree programmes: 2 bachelor's degrees, 6 master's degrees and 3 top-up and postgraduate diplomas. All of them sit within the performing arts. Programmes cover jazz and contemporary rhythmic music, classical music, electronic music and sound art, music pedagogy and church music. The academy also states that it is the only one in Denmark offering degree programmes in folk and traditional music and in film scoring.
For an international student, the practical side is straightforward. Bachelor's applications go through optagelse.dk, while master's applications are made directly to the academy. Students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland need a residence permit, arranged through SIRI. Study is free for EU/EEA and Swiss students, and other students pay an institutional fee set by the academy.
The register in numbers
Fees are in euros as the institution lists them. A programme with no figure in the register is "not recorded" on its page, never free.
