SEA - Business Academy

SEA - Business Academy is a business academy in Sønderborg, in the Southern Denmark region. It is part of the Danish higher education system and describes itself as similar to universities of applied science. Its degrees combine an academy foundation with the transferable skills the job market asks for.

The academy was founded in 2008. Teaching relates theory to practice: internships, company visits, real life cases, and lecturers who bring industry experience into the classroom. Every student at SEA must complete a compulsory internship of 10 weeks, in Denmark or abroad. Students work in groups as well as independently, and their own critical and analytical initiative is treated as an important part of the study form. Innovation camps run with companies, and internationalisation shows up in study trips, internships abroad, exchange, guest lectures from international partners and international projects. Almost 20% of students are international.

The register lists four English-taught degree programmes: two at Academy Profession level and two at top-up and postgraduate diploma level. Subjects taught are computer science and fine arts. Academy Profession programmes let students start working right away or continue towards a bachelor degree, and the bachelor top-ups are for students who already hold an AP degree or similar. The academy's own material mentions six English-taught programmes in all, and international students can take a full programme or a single semester.

For an international student, undergraduate applications go through optagelse.dk, while master's applications are made directly to the institution. Students from outside the EU/EEA need a residence permit via SIRI. Study is free for EU/EEA and Swiss students; others pay an institutional fee.
