About this programme

Master in Business Administration and Information Systems (MSc) is a Master's Degree programme at Copenhagen Business School in Frederiksberg, taught in English. It runs for 2 years. The register gives Frederiksberg as the campus town. It lists the degree as Master (2 years). Copenhagen Business School is a research university in Capital Region.

What you will study

This is a two-year master's programme at Copenhagen Business School, taught in English, worth 120 ECTS. It sits where business and IT meet. You learn to speak both "business" and "tech" and to act as the link between managers and developers.

What you study

The programme combines management, strategy and business understanding with insight into how digital and information technologies shape organisations. The weighting is roughly 60% IT and technology and 40% organisation and management.

In the first year you take mandatory courses. In the autumn semester these are Digital Business Analysis, Innovation in a Digital World, Strategy Making and Information Technology and Applied Machine Learning, each 7.5 ECTS. In the spring semester you choose four out of six courses: Technology and Organization in a Digital World, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Information Economics and Business, Advanced Strategic Information Management, and Researching Technologies: Explanatory and Design Strategies.

You learn to analyse a company's needs and identify where technology can create value. You "unbox" digital technologies, looking beyond the interface to how software, data and infrastructure shape behaviour, power and change.

How the programme is organised

The first year is course based. The third semester, 30 ECTS, is flexible: you can take electives at CBS or other Danish universities, a minor (typically three courses), an exchange at one of CBS's more than 300 partner universities, an academic internship with a project report, or a double degree. The fourth semester is the 30 ECTS master's thesis, usually written with a fellow student.

Teaching relies on group projects, workshops and hands-on case work, often with real companies. Exams vary: written assignments, oral exams on campus, written exams on campus and active participation.

On the double degree with Mannheim Business School you study the first year at CBS and the second year at Mannheim in Germany, earning both the CBS degree and a Mannheim Master in Management.

Who it suits

You should be curious about both technology and business. You do not need to be a programming expert, but you should want to understand how technologies work and how they can improve organisations. Much of the learning happens in teams, so you need to be comfortable with group work, clear communication and deadlines. The problems often have no single answer, so you should enjoy breaking down complexity and thinking independently.

Admission, language and next steps

The programme is taught in English. If your bachelor's degree was not taught in English, CBS recommends reading its guidance on English-taught programmes before applying. The natural progression is from HA(it.) - erhvervsøkonomi og informationsteknologi. Applications for master's programmes go directly to CBS. Students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland study free of charge; other students pay a fee set by the institution. Check the programme page for entry requirements and deadlines.
