What you will study
BSc in International Business and Politics at Copenhagen Business School is a three-year English-taught bachelor's degree for students who want to understand how business, politics and economics fit together. The programme has around 190 students, with an average age of 21.5 and 36% foreign students.
What you study
The programme is built around four areas: politics and sociology (40%), economics and mathematics (40%), trade and logistics (10%), and organisation and management (10%). In your first year you take courses such as Political Science (15 ECTS), Applied Microeconomics (7.5 ECTS), Political and Economic Thought (7.5 ECTS), Financial Accounting and Reporting (7.5 ECTS), Management and Organization (7.5 ECTS), Research Design and Qualitative Methods (7.5 ECTS) and Macroeconomics (7.5 ECTS).
In the second year you continue with International Economics, International Political Economy, Business Strategy and SDGs, Comparative Political Economy, International Business and Management, Corporate Finance and Research Design and Quantitative Methods, which runs across the third and fourth semesters. The third year includes Political Economy of Development, Global Business and Geoeconomics and a Bachelor Project (15 ECTS).
You learn to analyse how political systems shape markets and business opportunities, how regulations like the GDPR affect companies, and how economic shifts such as recession and inflation influence purchasing patterns and production. The programme also covers the human side of business, including ethics, diversity and management styles, and gives you an analytical toolbox using qualitative and quantitative methods.
How the programme is organised
Teaching is in English and courses are examined through written exams on campus, written assignments, oral exams and group exams. In the fifth semester you have 30 ECTS of options: you can take electives at CBS or other Danish universities, go on exchange at one of CBS's more than 300 partner universities, or do an academic internship in a company in or outside Denmark. The internship is completed with a project report and must be relevant to your programme. When you go on exchange through CBS, you do not pay for teaching at the foreign university (with a few exceptions) and you can keep your SU.
You start with around 160 other students. The IBP Union organises academic and social activities, from board game nights and Christmas dinners to panel debates and company visits. The study environment is described as ambitious, with students who are helpful and supportive towards each other.
Who it suits
This programme suits you if you are curious about how international companies deal with global markets, supply chain disruption, changing regulations and global competition. You should want to understand how governments and international organisations such as the EU shape business environments, and how companies respond to political and economic shifts. You are interested not just in business, economics or politics on their own, but in how they influence each other. You should be comfortable moving between detail and overview.
