What you will study

The Master's in Computer Engineering at Aalborg University teaches you to develop intelligent and efficient software for network and information processing systems. You get a deep grounding in the theory behind computer technology, information technology and communication technology, and you learn to build artificial intelligence and algorithms into communication and information processing systems.

What you study

The programme has two specialisations. On Networks and Distributed Systems you work with real-time requirements, distributed operations and security. The first semester project is Communication Systems (15 ECTS), with courses in Machine Learning, Dependable and Secure Distributed Systems, and Performance and Reliability Analysis of Communication Networks. The second semester project is Reliability, Safety and Security (15 ECTS), with Advanced Network Security plus one elective from Deep Learning, Numerical Scientific Computing or Networks and Systems.

On Artificial Intelligence, Vision and Sound you cover computer vision, visual scene analysis, object tracking and acoustics. The first semester project is Computer Vision (15 ECTS), with Machine Learning, Perception and Acquisition of Data, and Image Processing and Computer Vision. The second semester project is Acoustics, Sound Processing and Sound Perception (15 ECTS), with Deep Learning, Numerical Scientific Computing and Fundamentals of Acoustics and Sound.

How the programme is organised

Four semesters. Teaching alternates between lectures and group project work, where you develop IT solutions for concrete problems such as wireless communication, audio and video products, multimedia, avionics and navigation. The third semester gives you options: a semester project with electives, an internship in Denmark or abroad, or combining the semester project with your final thesis. The fourth semester is the master's thesis (30 ECTS), done alone or in a small group of two or three. If you take the long thesis, you start it in the third semester and continue into the fourth.

If your bachelor's degree is not from Aalborg University, you take a course on problem based learning (PBL) as part of the first semester project. The programme is taught in English.

Who it suits

It suits you if you want to work with computer technology, AI, vision and sound, networks and distributed systems, and if you like building systems where computers interact with their environment and with each other. Group project work is central, so you should be comfortable working closely with other students and with feedback from professors who are active in their fields.
