What you will study

What you study

This is a bachelor's degree in electronic sound and music, taught in English at the Royal Academy of Music's Aalborg campus. The work centres on producing and performing electronic music and sound. You compose, and you take an analytical approach to contemporary and older electronic music, art and culture. Music history and culture are part of the picture, so you can push into new territory on the contemporary art scene.

Expect hands-on work with music production, studio technology, hardware, programming, electronics, live performance, installations, synthesis and sound design. You also work with electronic sound for productions that span several art forms. The subjects are grouped into four areas:

  • Main study area: subjects where you perform, plus the subjects that support this
  • Pedagogics: subjects where you communicate and teach, plus supporting subjects
  • General studies: elementary music theory
  • Entrepreneurial studies: subjects and projects that give you experience as an entrepreneur

Teaching happens in large rooms with professional studio monitors, monitor controls, sound cards and sound-absorbing materials. The rooms hold drum pads, drum machines, synthesizers, MIDI controllers and MIDI keyboards. One room has four studio monitors for a 4-channel set-up. You also get two e-music rehearsal rooms with a monitor set-up, mixer, sound card and piano, open around the clock for production and composition.

Admission, language and next steps

There is a tuition fee for full-time degree students with citizenship outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland. Exchange students do not pay tuition.
