About this programme

Bachelor in Global Humanities is a Bachelor's Degree programme at Roskilde University in Roskilde, taught in English. It runs for 3 years. The register gives Roskilde as the campus town. It lists the degree as Bachelor. Roskilde University is a research university in Region Zealand.

What you will study

Bachelor in Global Humanities at Roskilde University is a three-year English-taught programme that looks at the humanities from an international and interdisciplinary angle. You work with philosophy, cultural studies, development studies, communication studies, media studies, linguistics, literary studies, history, educational studies and psychology. The focus is on how people think, feel and represent the world, and on how global encounters shift boundaries, identities and cultural forms.

What you study

The first three semesters are a broad introduction. You take courses in four dimensions: Science and Philosophy, Text and Sign, Subjectivity and Learning, and Culture and History. Alongside these you do three semester-long group projects that tie the dimension courses together. A series of progression courses cover project work skills, humanistic research methods and using theory in academic writing.

After that, you specialise in two bachelor subjects. The programme lists Communication Studies, Cultural Encounters and Social Psychology of Everyday Life. You can combine these with International Studies or Business Studies from the social sciences. Communication Studies teaches you to spot communication problems, make a communication plan and produce communication products for different audiences. Cultural Encounters builds your ability to analyse and work with cultural diversity. Social Psychology of Everyday Life looks at how people think, react and interact with culture and society.

How the programme is organised

Project work makes up half of your studies. You work in groups on real problems, often with companies or organisations, and you get supervision from professors. The first year is a basic section of interdisciplinary studies. The last two years are built around your two bachelor subjects, ending with a bachelor project. The example study programme shows courses of 5 ECTS and projects of 15 ECTS. You can spend a term at a partner university in Roskilde University's humanities exchange network, or arrange a stay elsewhere yourself.

You belong to a house of about 80 students, and Global Humanities has its own building on campus. A study environment coordinator and tutors support the social and academic side. The International Community, a student-driven organisation, runs events such as cooking nights, sports and game nights.

Who it suits

This programme suits you if you want to understand people and cultures across borders, and if you like working on open questions rather than memorising facts. You should be comfortable reading and writing academic English, because all teaching, exams and literature are in English. Group project work is central, so you need to enjoy collaborating and taking responsibility for your own learning.
