A full or partial tuition fee waiver; at Arts and Aarhus BSS also a monthly grant towards living costs

Overview

Aarhus University offers a limited number of Danish state scholarships for non-EU students. The scholarships are financed by the Danish state. Aarhus University does not have its own scholarship funds for this purpose.

When you apply to a master's degree programme at Aarhus University, the university automatically considers you for a Danish State Scholarship. You do not need to complete a separate application. If you submit your application by the specified deadline, the university will assess you for a scholarship along with your academic qualifications.

The content of a scholarship varies. In some cases, it is a full or partial tuition waiver. In other cases, the tuition waiver includes a monthly grant towards living expenses, typically but not always for the duration of your master's degree programme. Some faculties only offer tuition waivers. In that case, the faculty may be able to offer other relevant services to its tuition waiver recipients, for example assistance in searching for a relevant student job.

If you are offered a tuition waiver only, it is a requirement for obtaining a student residence permit that you have sufficient funds to support yourself financially during your stay in Denmark. You can read more at the website of the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration.

The scholarship is connected specifically to your master's degree programme and cannot be transferred to another degree programme at Aarhus University.

How to apply

When you apply for admission, your application is automatically assessed for a scholarship along with the academic assessment of your qualifications. You should not upload any additional documentation to your application for admission.

  1. Apply for a master's degree programme at Aarhus University by the deadline: 15 January for summer admission or 15 September for winter admission.
  2. Submit your application through the application system. No separate scholarship application is needed.
  3. If you are selected for a scholarship, you will receive a scholarship offer along with your letter of admission in the application system. You will have a very short deadline to accept the offer.
  4. If you are not selected for a scholarship, you will receive a tuition fee notification instead.

For Natural and Technical Sciences, if you are not selected for a tuition fee waiver when you receive your letter of admission, you may still be selected at a later date prior to the acceptance deadline of 1 April (summer admission) or 1 November (winter admission), as the award process continues throughout March. If you have not received a tuition waiver offer by 1 April or 1 November at the latest, you are required to pay tuition fees.
