How it compares

Master of Science in Business Administration and Bioentrepreneurship is one of 23 English-taught Business Administration programmes at Master's Degree level in the register, offered by 6 institutions. 21 of them list an annual fee for students from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland, from EUR 3,582 to EUR 15,000. 15 are recorded as free for EU, EEA and Swiss students.

What you will study

This MSc is a joint degree between Copenhagen Business School (CBS), DTU and the University of Copenhagen. You are admitted to CBS, but the first year is taught at KU, DTU or another university offering an equivalent course package. The second year is taught at CBS. The programme is full time over two years, 120 ECTS, and taught in English.

What you study

The first year is advanced biology and biotechnology. You need a bachelor in biology or biotechnology to enter. The course package is 60 ECTS and includes a mandatory introduction to Intellectual Property Rights of at least 5 ECTS. If you already have biology or biotechnology courses that meet the first-year requirements, you can apply to start directly in the second year.

The second year turns bio into business. Courses in the third semester cover innovation management, marketing, finance and biobusiness development and contracting. You work in interdisciplinary teams with business students on a business plan for a real life venture. That plan can be submitted to the Danish Venture Cup Idea Competition. In the fourth semester you do a three-month internship in a business department (marketing, business development, competitor intelligence) at a life-science company in the Copenhagen region. You write your master thesis alongside the internship, analysing issues you meet there.

How the programme is organised

The programme is part of the BioBusiness & Innovation Platform (BBIP), which brings together CBS, DTU Bioengineering and the University of Copenhagen, along with life-science firms in Denmark and Scandinavia. Teaching draws on industry experts, academic faculty, real life cases and insight into bio ventures. Classes mix life-science and business students, so you build cross-disciplinary skills and networks. Business students can take BBIP courses as single electives or as a minor in Bioentrepreneurship.

Who it suits

You should have a life-science background and want to work where science meets business. The programme is for people who want to translate research and patents into products and viable business opportunities. You will need to understand the science behind new developments and also learn tools from finance, marketing, intellectual property rights and business model design. If you are a business student, you can take BBIP courses as electives or a minor instead of the full MSc.

Admission, language and next steps

Admission requires a bachelor in biology or biotechnology. You apply to CBS, and entry requirements and application procedure are on CBS's homepage. The programme is taught in English. Students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland study free of charge; other students pay a fee set by the institution. Applications for master's programmes go directly to the institution. For questions about course planning, credit transfer or exemptions, contact Study Guidance. If you have a bachelor from outside Denmark, the International Admissions Office can guide you on the application process.
