About this programme
Master in Robotics, MSc in Engineering is a Master's Degree programme at Aalborg University in Aalborg, taught in English. It runs for 2 years. The register gives Aalborg as the campus town. It lists the degree as Master (2 years). Aalborg University is a research university in North Denmark.
What you will study
The Master's in Robotics at Aalborg University is for students who want to build and work with advanced robots: mobile, industrial, autonomous and collaborative. The programme is research-based and cross-disciplinary, and it combines mechanics, electronics and software in intelligent robotic systems. You work with robot programming, advanced control systems and advanced software development for robots.
What you study
The first year is built around two large project modules with courses attached. On the 1st semester you take the project Advanced Mobile Robotics (15 ECTS) alongside Robot Navigation (5 ECTS), Robot Mobility (5 ECTS) and Advanced Robotic Perception (5 ECTS). The 2nd semester project is Collaborative Robotics (15 ECTS), with courses in Object Manipulation and Task Planning (5 ECTS), Human Robot Interaction (5 ECTS) and Human Bionics (5 ECTS).
Across the programme you cover autonomous systems, mobile robots, industrial robots, human-robot interaction and system integration, and you learn to analyse and solve technical problems with modern scientific methods and tools. Topics include artificial intelligence, machine learning, control engineering, sensor technology, computer vision, embedded systems and simulation. You develop and test both hardware and software that works in practice.
How the programme is organised
The degree runs over four semesters. Teaching alternates between lectures and group project work on specific real-life challenges, and you are taught by lecturers from different research environments at the university. All bachelors who did not take their bachelor's degree at Aalborg University take a course on problem based learning (PBL) as part of the 1st semester project.
The 3rd semester gives you four options. Option A is the project Contextual Robotics (20 ECTS) with Readings in Robotics (5 ECTS) and Innovation and Entrepreneurship (5 ECTS). Option B is Entrepreneurial Practice (20 ECTS) with the same two courses. Option C is a Project-oriented Study in an External Organisation (30 ECTS). Option D is a long master's thesis (50 ECTS, spread across the 3rd and 4th semester) with Readings in Robotics (5 ECTS) and Innovation and Entrepreneurship (5 ECTS).
In the 4th semester you either continue or start your master's thesis (30 ECTS), specialising in a subject of your own interest, alone or in a small group of two to three people. In the 3rd semester you can also go abroad or spend the semester in a company. AAU cooperates with universities worldwide and has industry contacts for student projects and internships. The International Office can guide you, but you make your own preparations, including credit transfer, accommodation, insurance, visa and vaccinations.
Who it suits
This programme suits you if you want to work with advanced technologies and create solutions that combine mechanics, electronics and software. You should be comfortable with cross-disciplinary work and with managing all phases of a project. The study environment mixes mechanics, electronics, computer vision and AI, and you will work in a flexible way across fields. Graduates come out with strong collaborative skills and the ability to handle development and analysis tasks.

Before you apply
Master’s applications go straight to Aalborg University, not through optagelse.dk, and the institution sets its own deadline. Entry requirements and language tests are set by the institution, so start from the official programme page. Our guides cover tuition fees, residence permits and housing.
Facts on this page come from the Study in Denmark register, the official portal of the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science. Fees are in euros as the institution lists them. "Not recorded" means the register has no figure, not that the programme is free. Always confirm requirements, fees and deadlines with the institution.
