What you will study

What you study

Nanotechnology means designing, building and controlling materials and components at the nanoscale, from 1 to 100 nm. By putting materials and devices together atom by atom or molecule by molecule, you get close control over their properties and can make materials with new and unexpected behaviour. The applications run across communication, data storage and data processing, (bio)sensors, catalysis and medicine.

The programme covers the major areas within nanobiotechnology: advanced gene technology, reaction engineering, high throughput systems, drug discovery, molecular electronics, molecular simulations, self-assembling systems, drug delivery systems, properties of interfaces, and spectroscopic methods such as MS and NMR. You learn to understand and reflect on the theory, methods and experiments in these areas.

Teaching combines research-based teaching, team-based project work and a high degree of interaction with industrial partners. You work in a challenging environment with room for new ideas.

You have access to Aalborg University's laboratory facilities, including a class 100 clean room with equipment for micro and nanoscale fabrication and characterisation, a fully equipped biochemistry lab, a class 1 area and biophysical investigation equipment.

Admission, language and next steps

To be accepted you need a relevant Bachelor's degree in natural sciences, materials science or biotechnology. Each applicant is assessed individually by the Study Board in charge of the Nanotechnology education at Aalborg University.

You must also document that your English is at an acceptable level. Check Aalborg University's language requirements for the details.

Apply directly to Aalborg University with all relevant documentation. If you are unsure whether your foreign certificate or diploma meets the general entry requirements, contact the university directly.
