A grant towards travel and living costs for 2 to 12 months abroad, plus exemption from tuition fees at the host institution
Overview
Erasmus+ is the EU programme that organises student and doctoral candidate exchanges. These exchanges happen within countries that are fully part of the programme and to and from countries associated to Erasmus+.
You do not apply to a central Erasmus+ office. Instead, you contact the international or Erasmus+ office at your own university or higher education institution to start the process. Your sending institution selects applicants in a fair and transparent way.
To be eligible, you must be registered at a higher education institution that participates in the Erasmus+ programme and enrolled in studies leading to a recognised degree or tertiary-level qualification. The study period abroad must be relevant to your degree-related learning and personal development needs and must be part of your study programme.
Exchanges can be long-term (2 to 12 months, including blended mobilities with a virtual component) or short-term (5 to 30 days, which must be blended). The maximum total duration is 12 months within one study cycle, and you can do more than one exchange within that limit. For one-cycle courses such as medicine or architecture, you can go abroad for as long as 24 months.

What it covers
- A grant that contributes to your travel and daily living costs. The amount depends on conditions including differences in living costs between your country and the destination country, the number of students applying for a grant, the distance between countries and the availability of other grants.
- Exemption from fees for tuition, registration, examinations, and charges for access to laboratories or libraries at the receiving institution. Small fees for insurance or student union membership may still apply.
- Extra support for students going on a traineeship, students with fewer opportunities or those from outermost regions.
- Access to Erasmus+ Online Language Support to help you learn the language used for your studies.
- A learning agreement for studies signed before your stay, which defines how your activities abroad will be recognised and sets out rights and responsibilities.
- The Erasmus+ Student Charter explaining your rights and obligations.
- After your stay, a transcript of records from the receiving institution and recognition of credits by your sending institution, counted towards your degree without any other requirements. Your mobility period should be recorded in the Diploma Supplement, depending on where your institution is based.
